Gena Hicks, PhD

I am a psychologist with a private practice in a comfortable office space where I provide individual psychotherapy to adults. While OCD has been a primary focus in my practice for over 10 years, I enjoy working with a wide range of issues. Typically, about 25-40% of the clients on caseload have OCD or an OC-related disorder.

When clients present with OCD along with other issues of concern, I collaborate with them in developing individualized treatment plan. I commonly treat Illness Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, panic, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, mood disorders, and co-occurring ADHD. I also have expertise in sexual trauma, childhood trauma, narcissistic abuse, religious trauma, and military trauma. For those processing trauma, I offer EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

I have been practicing full-time as a licensed psychologist since 2005. Since my earliest graduate training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been foundational in my treatment of a wide variety of mood and anxiety disorders, including OCD. The treatment of OCD and Illness Anxiety Disorder has been a primary emphasis in my practice for over 10 years. I actively attend trainings and read books that emphasize ERP, I-CBT, and ACT for the treatment of OCD.

I desire–and eagerly welcome–clients with cultural backgrounds and identities different than my own!

I have experience working with international students in university settings, and with Asian, Black, Native, and Latinx American clients. I had the privilege of working with U.S. military veterans at a VA medical center for 4 years. I seek out ongoing cultural competency trainings through continuing education workshops offered by my state and national professional organizations.
