Sharon M. Batista MD
Narrative of Services:
Approximately 75% of my practice focuses on OCD and related conditions, including perinatal OCD, hoarding disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviors, and perfectionism. I have treated several hundred individuals with OCD over the course of my career, across a range of symptom presentations and severity. My practice offers diagnostic consultations, evidence-based psychotherapy (ERP and CBT), and medication management. I also provide second opinions and treatment planning consultations for complex or treatment-resistant cases. Care is delivered via telepsychiatry in 11 states, and I regularly collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, and families to support coordinated, effective treatment.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
In addition to OCD, I treat co-occurring conditions including depression, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, insomnia, and trauma-related disorders. I offer tailored treatment using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), psychodynamic approaches, and medication management. I serve patients across the lifespan and provide specialized care in reproductive psychiatry, including consultations for pre-pregnancy planning, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and evidence-based. I also offer one-time consultations for diagnostic clarification or second opinions, and can coordinate care with other providers when ongoing treatment is not indicated.
Training Description:
I have treated individuals with OCD and related disorders since 2010, using CBT, ERP, and psychodynamic approaches. I completed residency and fellowship training at Mount Sinai and NYU and participated in the IOCDF’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) in 2022. I regularly attend workshops, courses, and national conferences through the IOCDF, ADAA, and APA to stay current with advances in OCD treatment. My clinical work includes a focus on taboo thoughts, hoarding, and perinatal OCD. As a psychiatric advisor to NOCD and frequent national speaker, I remain active in education and dissemination of evidence-based care.
Diversity Statement:
As a minority professional, I am committed to improving access to care for underrepresented and historically excluded populations. My practice actively serves individuals from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with an emphasis on identity-affirming, culturally responsive care. I specialize in working with women and people of color, including those navigating stigma, intergenerational trauma, and structural barriers to treatment. I also mentor students and early-career professionals from underrepresented backgrounds and advocate for diversity in medicine through leadership roles in national organizations.
